The Diamond Devils started out the Hinckley Tournament with an 11-1 victory over the Hibbing Miners.

In the first inning the Devils jumped out to a three nothing lead. John Hilbelink pulled a ball into right field to start off the game. Adam Gregg almost took the head off of the third baseman as he doubled down the third base line. Brad Mazer walked in his time at the plate to load the bases. Andrew Engebretson drove in the first run of the game with a single to left field. Lee Gregg scored the final two runs of the inning with a single to center field.

The Devils took a commanding lead in the second inning scoring six runs. With one out, John Hibelink earned a base on balls. Adam Gregg drove in John with a double to left center. After a fly out to short, Andrew Engebretson scored Adam with a single to left and then stole second base. Lee Gregg was able to reach first base when struck out on a wild pitch that reached the backstop, giving the Devils runners at the corners. An error at short on Ryan Dwyer’s ground ball scored a run and left runners at second and first. KC Johnson scored Lee on a single to right field. Tom Fisk singled to left to score and Dan Boisclair finished the scoring with a single to right center that scored KC.

The Devils finished off the game in the bottom of the fifth winning by the ten run rule. With a 9-1 lead, the Devils got right down to business as John Hilbelink walked to start off the inning. Jake Smith moved John up to third with a single to right field. Jake stole second before Brad Mazer’s ground out to short scored John. Andrew Engebretson’s walk gave the Devils runners at first and second. Lee Gregg ended the game with a single to left scoring Jake for a ten run lead.

Adam Gregg shut down the Miners while facing just two over the minimum over four innings on 51 pitches. Jake Smith pitched the fifth inning giving up one unearned run.
