The suddenly 7 ft 10 in tall Paul Kunz earns another victory as the Devils defeat DC 7-5.

As Paul was getting accustomed to the two foot high mound at DC, the Saints were able to take advantage of three walks to score two runs. After the initial inning Paul was able to get the feel of the mound and shut down the Saints until the eighth inning when they scored a single run on a single and a double to the left center gap.

As Paul was shutting down the Saints the Devils hitters were able to chip away at the early lead. In the second inning Ryan Dwyer led off the inning with a double down the right field line. Two outs later Tyler Tengesdul’s singled to right field scored Ryan for the first run of the game.

In the sixth inning the Devils took the lead scoring four runs. Andrew Engebretson led off the inning with a high drive to right center that fell to the ground as the center fielder and right fielder crashed into each other. Brad Mazer followed with a single to right to drive in Andrew. Lee Gregg singled to left to put runners at second and first. After a strike out, Ryan Dwyer singled to left to score Brad from second. After another strike out, Andrew Pratt drove in Lee and with a misplayed ball in left that scored Ryan from first.

The Devils scored the winning run in the seventh inning. Adam Gregg walked in the first at bat of the inning. Andrew Engebretson’s base
hit put runners at second and first. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position for Brad Mazer as his sacrifice fly to left scored Adam and allowed Andrew to move up to third as the throw to home was too late. Lee Gregg’s grounder to second tacked on an additional run to finalize the scoring for the game.

With Paul lasting through eight innings, Brandon Schliinz making his pitching debut in 2009, finished up the game, giving up two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth.
