The Diamond Devils behind the pitching of Paul Kunz defeat the Huskies 7-3.

 Paul earned his third victory of the season on 110 pitches over seven innings. The only time the Huskies mounted a threat was in the second and sixth innings. In the second the Huskies had the bases loaded with one out however, Paul was able to get the number eight hitter to ground to short for an inning ending double play.

In the sixth, the Huskies were able to cross the plate three times. The Huskies number nine hitter singled to start the inning. The next batter walked putting runners at second and third. The third batter of the inning hit a ball back to Paul, who threw over to third for the first out of the inning. A single in the next at bat scored the first run of the inning.
next hitter walked to load the bases. A double down just inside the
field line scored the final two runs of the game.

 With 98 pitches after six inning, Paul, ever the competitor, decided to pitch one more inning to earn the victory after the Diamond Devils retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

The Devils had taken a two run lead scoring a run a piece in the third and fourth innings. In the third inning Craig Hawkinson scored from second when Andrew Pratt’s dribbler down the third base line was fielded however, the throw to first was late and went into right field to score the first run. In the fourth Brad Mazer singled to center and then scored from first on Andrew Engebretson’s double to center field.

 In the seventh KC Johnson started off the rally with a high fly ball to left that lost in the sun as the ball fell to the ground without being touched by the left fielder. After a fly out to second the next four Devils would reached base. Craig Hawkinson’s single rolled just between the third baseman and shortstop. Dan Boisclair tied the game with a base hit. Andrew Pratt loaded the bases with a walk. John Hilbelink got the game winning base hit with a single to left. Brad Mazer added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to right and Andrew Engebretson scored the final two runs when he unloaded on a pitch for a double into the deepest part of Don Timpe field just under the scoreboard in right center.
