Due to the weather over last two weekends, the Diamond Devils first game was a non-league game against the Minneapolis Cubs. The game was tied going into the last inning. However, the Cubs were able to score two runs in the seventh to win the game 7-5.

The Cubs scored their first run of the game in the top of the first on three singles off of Pat McPherson. In the bottom half of the inning, the Devils responded with three runs. Ryan Dwyer led off the attack with a double into the right center gap. After a fly out to third, Adam Gregg was hit by a pitch. Lee Gregg moved Ryan to third on a fly out to right field. KC Johnson's double past the converging center and right fielders scored Ryan from third and Adam from first. On the next pitch, Tom Fisk singled to center to score KC from second.

KC was able to make the play and get an out at first but the Cubs scored a run and had a runner at second. A double in the next at bat scored the second run of the inning. After a strike out, a great play behind second base to stop the ball from going into center turned into a an error as the throw to first skipped in the dirt and rolled into foul territory allowing the tying run to score.

The Devils took their last lead of the game in the bottom of the third. KC Johnson led off the inning with a double down the left field line. After a walk, Kyle Tengesdul scored the final run of the game with a single to center.
