For the second time in the regional tournament the Diamond Devils led late in the game but could not hold on as they are bumped by the Young America Cardinals 5-4.

The Diamond Devils started off the game the correct way. Ryan Dwyer led off the bottom of the first with a double. Dave Barchardt singled putting runners at first and third. After a fly out to first, Adam Gregg hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Ryan.

The Devils scored again in the fourth. KC Johnson singled in the Devils' first at bat of the inning. After a fly out to center, Lee Gregg moved KC up on a base hit. Andrew Miller grounded to the pitcher resulting in an out at second leaving the Devils with runners at the corners. In the next at bat, TJ Aalid singled to score KC from third.

Chris Harrell started the game for the Devils and was cruising along having just faced one over the minimum through the first five innings. However, the Cardinals nicked him for a run in the top of the sixth. Chet Maschke led off the inning with a base hit. A sacrifice bunt fielded by the catcher moved the runner up to second. Adam Kosteika singled to put runners at the corners. Adam Ernst's fly ball to right scored the first run of the game for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals got a big hit and the lead in the seventh inning. Brandon Stender started the inning off with a base hit. After a ground out to third in the next at bat, Bobby Kraemer blooped one over the Devils' second baseman. Nik Franck got the pitch that he wanted and crushed a ball over the right field fence giving the Cardinals a 4-2 lead.

The Devils got their big hit in the bottom of the eighth. KC Johnson led off the inning with a hot ground ball to short that skipped off the glove of the fielder and landed in short center. Adam Gregg did not waste any time as he crushed a hanging pitch over the left field fence.

The Cardinals scored the winning run in the top of the ninth. Nik Franck walked in the Cardinals' first plate appearance. A sacrifice bunt fielded by the third baseman moved the runner up to second. After a strike out, Adam Kistecka singled to right leaving runners at the corners. Adam Ernst walked loading the bases and Clint Aretz was hit by a pitch to force in the run.

The Devils had their chance in the bottom of the ninth. Craig Hawkinson was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Kyle Tengedul sacrifice bunted to move Craig up. The next batter grounded out to third before Dave Borchardt slashed a ball towards the third baseman. The third baseman made a nice play getting just enough of the ball to keep the runner from scoring from second as the ball rolled into short left field. KC Johnson loaded the bases on a walk. With Adam Gregg up the Devils had more than a fair shot of tying or winning the game outright. However, it would not be as he popped out to the first baseman on a 2 and 2 count.
