The Diamond Devils came within inches of tying up the game in the top of the ninth but ended up falling to the Mallards 6-5.

The Devils started off the scoring in the first inning. The first three batters wound up on base via a walk and two singles to left. A ground ball to third resulted in a force out at home before Tom Fisk's base hit to left scored the only run of the inning.

The Mallards answered in the bottom of the first. Peter Harrell and Pete Sycks singled to left putting runners at first and second. A ground ball to short resulted in a force out at third prior to Chris Harrell's single to score the tying run.

Depending on the point of view, the pitching was just good enough or the hitting was bad enough as both teams combined would strand 14 runners on base through the first three innings.

The Mallards would leave another runner on base in the fourth inning but after scoring three runs. Nate Palm led off the inning with a base hit to center field. Noah Waterhouse followed with a hit to right field. Peter Harrell laid down a sacrificed bunt, the throw to first was off the target which sent the Devils' second basemen Kyle Tengedul crashing into Peter while the ball rolled into foul territory. With Kyle and Peter on the ground lying next to each other the runners were advancing with Nate scoring and Noah stopping at third as the ball came back into the infield. With time called, Kyle was able to return to second but Peter was not as fortunate as he had to be helped off of the field. With the continuation of play, Pete Sycks hit a sac fly to right to score Waterhouse from third. The next Mallard hitter, Andy Snyder, hit a double down the left field line as the ball was misplayed by the left fielder the final run of inning scored.

The Devils closed the gap in the sixth inning scoring two more runs. Kyle Tengesdul walked in the Devils first at bat of the inning. After a fly ball to center, Ryan Dwyer walked putting runners at first and second. KC Johnson drove in both runs on a double into the left center gap. The inning ended on a double play when Adam Gregg's line drive up the middle was snagged by the pitcher who threw to second getting KC for the final out.

The Mallards extended their lead by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Noah Waterhouse singled to center. Nick Rettke put down a sacrifice bunt, however, the Devils failed to get the out as the first baseman failed to make the catch giving the Mallards runners at the corners. Pete Sycks doubled to center scoring Noah easily but Nick, trying to score from first, was gunned down at the plate. An intentional walk given to Andy Snyder put runners at the corners once again. A rare stolen base by Andy forced the Devils to intentional walk Chris Harrell. The final run of the inning was scored when Eddie Kutz walked in his time at the plate.

With the score 6-3, the Devils came within inches of tying the game. Ryan Dwyer led off the inning with a single to right. After a fly ball to first, Adam Gregg walked. Lee Gregg walked to load the bases and was then lifted for a pinch runner Barry McCabe. Tom Fisk scored Ryan at third when he walked. With a fly ball to second the Devils were down to their last out. Craig Hawkinson doubled down the left field line scoring Adam from third and it looked like Barry was going to score as the ball was airmailed from left field. However, Barry tripped and fell about four feet short of the plate as the ball finally came back down to earth hitting Barry in the legs. Barry tried crawling to the plate as the pitcher picked up the ball and tagged him on the foot just before Barry slammed in hand on the plate. Final score, 6-5 for the Mallards.
