The Diamond Devils took an early lead in the first. With two outs, Tom Fisk was hit by a pitch and then moved up to third on a two base wild pitch. TJ Aalid singled to left to give the Devils their only lead of the game.

From the third inning on the Lakers took advantage of the Devils pitching and spotty defense scoring twenty runs, eleven earned, over the final four innings. In those innings, the Lakers batted through the order in every inning, sending 37 batters to the plate.
