The Devils scored early and often but it would take until the ninth inning for the winning run to be scored.

Ryan Dwyer In the first inning, the Devils had the bases loaded after a KC Johnson single to left, an Adam Gregg double down the left field line and a Lee Gregg walk. Pat McPherson pounded the second pitch in his at bat to the third baseman. Upon fielding the ball, the third baseman tried for a force at home however, the throw to home was dropped by the catcher allowing the first run of the year to score. In the next at bat, Craig Hawkinson drove in the final run of the inning with a fielder's choice to second base.

The River Bandits rebounding in their half of the first inning with two runs of their own. The first three batters would reach base before a wild pitch and a sacrifice to center scored their runs.

The Devils scored two more runs in the top of the third. Adam Gregg singled down the right field followed by Lee Gregg's single down the left field line. Pat McPherson's sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base. After an infield fly, Kyle Tengesdul singled to right to score both runs.

In the fourth, the Devils scored two more runs. Ryan Dwyer started off the inning with an infield single in front of the shortstop. After a fly ball out to left, Adam Gregg drove a ball to second but the attempt for an out at second was dropped by the shortstop leaving runners at first and second. The next at bat found Lee Gregg walking to load the bases. Pat McPherson drove in the first run with a ground ball to second. The Bandits could have escaped with no more damage when Craig Hawkinson grounded to short however, the throw to first was dropped allowing the Devils to score another run. Paul Kunz

The Devils' opening day pitcher was Paul Kunz and after giving up two runs in the first inning, retired the next six batters in short order. However, the Bandits would score a two out run in the fourth and ended Paul's day with three runs in the fifth. In the fifth, Bandits looked like the Baltimore Orioles against the Twins' Francisco Liriano with one hit not leaving the infield and the remaining four other hits barely leaving the infield.

Pat McPherson Pat McPherson would pitch the remaining four innings picking up the win after the Devils scored the winning run in the top of the ninth with two outs. Craig Hawkinson led off the inning with a walk and was moved down to second on a sacrificed bunt that was dropped by the first baseman giving the Devils runners at first and second. After a strike out and fly out to center, Ryan Dwyer drove in Craig with a base hit to left center.
