What a good pitcher will do is shut down a team and that is what CJ Goodwald did on Thursday. The Villains scored an unearned run in the first but could only manage to get two more runners into scoring position, one on an error and the other on a pass ball.

The Villains scored in the top of the first, with the help from an error in right field to advance a runner after a base hit. Corey Nelson led off the game with a base hit that skipped by the Devil’s right fielder allowing Corey to reach second base. Jason Sokolowski sac bunted to move Corey to third. Jeff Jarvis knocked in Corey on a ball hit to third. On the play, the throw from
third was late to the plate as Corey gave the Villains early hope.

The lead lasted exactly three Devil batters. Matt Goodwald started the Devils off by reaching first base via a walk, not unusual for the Devils on this night as the Villain pitchers found the strike zone elusive. KC Johnson singled in his at bat and Adam Gregg doubled to deep center field to score the winning run from first base.

Devil fans delighted as the next nine runs were scored by the home team to end the game in seven innings. Six runs crossed the plate in the third inning. Brandon Schliinz was hit by a pitch to start off the inning. Brandon stole second in Lee Adam’s at bat before Lee
doubled to score Brandon. Ryan Dwyer singled moving Lee to third. Ryan stole second before a pass ball scored Lee and allowed Ryan to move to third. Mike Hokanson walked to put Devils at third and first before another pass ball scored Ryan and allowed Mike to advance to second. A strike out later, Vince Reuter walked in his plate appearance. Another strike out and a walk given up to KC Johnson loaded the bases for Adam Gregg who would not disappoint as he delivered two more RBIs on a base hit. With KC at second and Adam at first, Brandon Schliinz walked to load the bases setting up another run on a wild pitch to score KC from third.

The Devils scored the ninth run of the game in the fourth inning. With one out, Andrew Pratt singled, stole second and on the next pitch stole third before Vince Reuter drove him home on a base hit.

Another run was added in the fifth. Lee Gregg singled to start off the inning. Ryan Dywer drove the ball back to the pitcher in his at bat but instead of a double play the pitcher sailed the throw into center allowing Lee to reach third. A fly out to right later, Andrew Pratt singled in the only run of the inning.

Andrew Pratt scored the final run of the game. With one out, Andrew was able to get to first on an error at second. Andrew stole second and got to third on an errant throw by the catcher. Andrew scored the game ending run on a wild pitch.
