Both the Diamond Devils and the River Bandits were scoring runs like they were going out of style. Both starting pitchers were chased from the game in the fourth inning after a combinded 15 runs were scored. After that only six more runs were scored, inflating both ERAs and batting averages.

With the score tied 1-1 in the second the Devils batted around putting up five runs. Lee Gregg led off with a base hit and moved to second when Ryan Dywer was hit by a pitch. Andrew Pratt’s sac bunt put the runners into scoring position. Pat McPherson walked to load the bases for Matt Goodwald. Matt singled to score Lee. KC Johnson single to score Ryan. A strike out later, Adam Gregg doubled to right center to score the three base runners.

The Devils scored two more in the third. As in the second inning Lee singled and Ryan was hit by another pitch. With the lead, instead of bunting, Andrew singled to score Lee. With runners at the corner, Pat McPherson hit into a double play scoring Ryan.

In the fourth the Bandits came storming back with six runs of their own. Jason Lesser started the assault with a 316 foot home run just over the 315 foot sign in left field. Mike Daugs singled and was followed by a Cole Hansen walk. A strike out later, Niles Lewin singled. Jimmy Rassatt scored two runs with a base hit. Tyler Maher smacked a triple to score two more runs. Ryan Rassatt knocked in the final run with a base hit.

The Devils put a band-aid on the bleeding by increasing a one run lead into a three run lead in the bottom half of the inning. With one out and Adam Gregg at first, Brandon Schliinz singled to move Adam over to third. Brandon stole second before Ryan Dwyer scored both runners on a double.

The Devils added two more runs in the fifth inning. Pat McPherson was hit by a pitch to start off the inning and moved to second on a Matt Goodwald sac bunt. With his second home run of week, KC Johnson finished the scoring in the inning.

The Devils scored their final run of the game in the seventh inning. Matt Goodwald doubled and then stole third base. Brad Mazer laced a double down the left field line to score the run.

Too little to late for the Bandits as they scored their final two runs in the eighth inning. With one out, Jimmy Rassatt singled and after a fly out to center moved up to second on a walk to Ben Fontana. An error in the next at bat loaded the bases before Jason singled in the Bandits’ two runs.
