With bases loaded in the sixth inning and the Diamond Devils looking to put the game out of reach were building on their 7-1 run lead when Manager John Timpe was hit behind the temple by a slicing line drive in foul territory by third base. John was ok but was taken to the hospital to be checked out. In his absence, the game took on a different feel as the Devils hung on to win 8-5.

The Devils scored six runs in the fourth inning. With one out, Adam Gregg reached first on an error by the shortstop. Lee Gregg followed with a base hit to put runners at second and first. Brandon Schliinz walked to load the bases. A balk scored Adam and advanced Lee and Brandon. Ryan Dwyer singled to left  to drive in Lee and Brandon. Ryan took second on the throw to home. Mike Hokanson’s base hit drove in Ryan for the fourth run of the game. An error at short allowed Andrew Pratt to reach first giving the Devils runners at second and first. Dan Boisclair was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Matt Goodwald’s single scored Mike and Andrew to close out the inning.

Rogers would be the next team to score. The Devils starting pitcher, CJ Goodwald cruised through the first four innings on 44 pitches. Rogers was finally able to get a couple of runners into scoring position in the fifth but CJ was able to work out of the jamb. Rogers scored their only run off of CJ in the sixth. With one out, Rogers ran off three base hits to load the bases. CJ was able to bear down and get two ground balls to third, giving up just a single run.

The Devils came back and scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Dan Boisclair led off the inning with a bloop single behind the pitchers mound between three Rogers’ fielders. KC Johnson walked and Adam Gregg singled to load the bases. Lee Gregg scored Dan on a base hit. Brandon Schliinz knocked John Timpe before knocking in KC with a ground ball to first base.

Lee Gregg took over the pitching duties in the seventh and Rogers went on to score three runs on a hit by pitch, a single, a double, a ground out to first and a sac fly to left field. Lee pitched a perfect eighth inning before giving way to Brandon Schliinz.

In the ninth, Rogers scored a run on a walk, two errors and a pass ball before a strange double play to end the game. On the play, the runner at second ran too far towards third and could not get in time as Adam Gregg easily threw him out at second after a fly ball out in center field.
