The Orphans scored two runs in their half of the first inning and held on for the win as the Diamond Devils could not get going at the plate.

With two outs in the first, the Orphans scored two runs on a walk and three singles. Luke Gagnon walked in his plate appearance. Ben Borrell beat out a ground ball to first as the Devils pitcher was slow covering first base. Aaron Demarais singled home Luke from second and Steve Lee drove in Ben with a base hit. That would be the game winner as the Orphan’s Jake Streich and the defense behind him kept the Devils off balance.

As a matter of fact the only Devils’ run was courtesy of an Orphan’s mistake. The normally fundamentally sound Orphans tried a pick off play at second, with bases loaded, two outs and a 1-2 count on the batter. As the ball rolled into center, the Devils scored their only run of the game.
