With the Diamond Devil’s backs to the wall, CJ Goodwald goes out and shuts down the Loretto Larks. CJ pitched 8 2/3 innings giving up no runs on six hits. The Larks only managed to get four runners into scoring position during the entire game.

The Devils scored the winning run in the first inning. Matt Goodwald singled to start the Devils and moved to third on a KC Johnson double. Brad Mazer scored Matt with a sac fly to center.

The Devils tacked on two more runs in the second. Peter Sycks doubled to left center to start off the inning. Andrew Engebretson singled to put runners at the corners. An out later, Ryan Dwyer scored Peter with a ground ball to short. An error at short allowed the Devils to keep runners at first and second. Another Lark’s error in Matt Goodwald’s at bat allowed Andrew to score from second.

The Devils scored another run in the third inning. Adam Gregg led off with a base hit. Brandon Schliinz had a bunt hit that got past the pitcher on the first base side of the infield. On the play Adam gained third on an error charged to pitcher trying to make a play at first. A change of pitchers and a pick off at first occurred before Peter Sycks walked in his at bat. Andrew Engebretson scored Adam on a sac fly to right field.

The Devils scored the final two runs of the game in the seventh inning. Adam Gregg singled to get things rolling for the Devils. A strike out later, Peter Sycks delivered a base hit. Andrew earned another RBI with a single that scored Adam. A wild pitch in Craig Hawkinson’s at bat put runners at second and third and enabled Craig to pick up an RBI with a sac fly to center.
