Last month the Diamond Devils lost to the DC Saints. On Sunday, the Devils were tamed by the St. Michael Saints.

This game pitted the two top teams in the North Star League. St. Michael came in undefeated at 8-0 and the Devils at 6-1.

The Saints started the scoring in the second inning. With two outs and Derek Brandt on first, Kyle Krzmarzick doubled down the right field line to Derek.

The Saints scored in the fourth, once again with two outs. This time Nick Volkmann was on second and scored on a Tyler Carlson single.

The Devils took the lead in the fifth inning. Matt Duenwald singled to start the inning and was followed by a single by Mike Hokanson. A strike out later, Craig Hawkinson singled to load the bases. Dan Boisclair drove a ball up the middle that was fielded by the shortstop. However in trying to turn a double play the shortstop dropped the ball allowing the Devils to score while keeping the bases loaded. After another strikeout, KC Johnson singled to score Mike. Adam Gregg singled to score Craig, for the third run of the inning. The Devils would leave the bases loaded as the next batter flew out to center.

The Saints regained the lead in the sixth and never looked back. Kyle Krzmarzick walked to start the rally. Nick Volkmann was going to sac bunt but did not as the pitches were out of the strike zone and on a 3-1 count hit a double. Brandon Valerius followed with a double in his at bat scoring two runs. One out later, Brandon scored on a Bobby Kneefe base hit.

The Saints tacked on another run in the seventh to put the nails in the coffin.

The Devil’s Brandon Schliinz earned the decision giving up five runs in five and third innings pitched. Paul Kunz finished the game giving up one run over two and two thirds innings pitched.
