For the second time in three years, John Riewer shuts down the Diamond Devils. Two years ago at Don Timpe Field, John pitched a one hitter. This year a one run, five hitter.

The Diamond Devils scored their only run of the game in the first inning. KC Johnson led off with a double. After two quick outs, Andrew Engebretson singled in KC.

The next time the Devils threatened was in the ninth. KC started the inning with a single. After two strikeouts Enge crushed a ball to straight away center that would have scored KC easily but the ball rolled under the fence for a ground rule double. KC and Enge would end the game on third and second when the next batter grounded out to third.

DC played aggressively trying a couple of suicide squeeze plays and stealing four bases. The Saints scored all of the runs they would need in the fourth. An error allowed the first batter of the inning to reach first. A stolen base and single tied the game. A base hit put runners at first and second. Brent Opsahl’s sac bunt moved the runners up a base. John Reviewer singled to right to score two more runs. On the play John moved up to third on an error by the Devil’s right fielder. John came around to score on a ground out by Dan Birkholz ending the scoring for the Saints in the inning.

DC added a run in the seventh. Shawn Larson started the inning with a walk and then stole second in the Saint’s next at bat. He moved up to third on a ground out and then scored on a sac fly by whom else, John Riewer.

Adam Gregg pitched six innings, getting the decision by giving up four runs, two earned on seven hits, no walks while striking out three. Brandon Schliinz pitched the seventh and eighth giving up one run. Paul Kunz pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
