Once again the Devils jumped out to an early lead and again lost the lead but this time the Devils battled back and won the game in the their last at bat.

After Hamel scored a run in the top of the first the Devils scored four in the bottom of the first inning. The first four of the Diamond Devil’s hitter’s came around to score in their turn at bat. Matt Goodwald singled on the first pitch. KC Johnson, back from a good season at Bethany Lutheran College wasted no time and drove in Matt with a double to right center. KC, trying to stretch a double into a triple, got caught in between bases. However, the third baseman misplayed the throw and KC was able to reach third safely. Brandon Schliinz scored KC with a sac fly to center. Adam Gregg and Matt Duenwald followed with singles. Both Adam and Matt moved up a base when Ryan Dwyer grounded out to the pitcher. Adam scored and Matt moved up to third on a wild pitch. Andrew Pratt drove in Matt with a sharply hit single to round out the scoring.

Hamel bounced back in the third inning to retake the lead. Pat McPherson got the first hitter out on a nice running catch at the fence in foul territory by left fielder Ryan Dwyer. A walk, hit and a misplay by the center fielder gave Hamel runners at third and second. A sac fly to center and a single reduced the Devils lead to one run at four to three. Pat walked the next batter to put runners at first and third. In Hamel’s next at bat, Seth Ryan hit a triple to score the final two runs of the inning, giving Hamel a five to four lead.

The next scoring for both teams came in the sixth inning. The Devil’s CJ Goodwald entered the game and walked the first batter he faced. He then went on to strike out the next batter and then walked the following batter. In the next at bat, a pass ball allowed the runners to move up a base before CJ struck out the batter. Hamel’s next hitter singled to right to score another run and it looked like the runner from second was going to score but a strong throw from Andrew Pratt in right field clipped the runner at the plate ending the top half of the sixth.

The Diamond Devils responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs to tie the game. Dan Boisclair led off the inning with a walk. Dan took second on a ground out by Matt Goodwald to the shortstop. In the next at bat, Dan moved up to third on a pass ball before KC Johnson walked. With runners at the corners, Brandon Schliinz hit the ball back to the pitcher. On the play, the pitcher threw to second to start a double play but the shortstop dropped the ball giving the Devils a run and runners at first and second. Adam Gregg followed with a hit to score KC from second to tie the game and end the scoring for the Devils.

The Hawks had a chance to regain the lead in the seventh. CJ got the first batter to ground out to short. The next batter struck out but the ball bounced over the catcher’s head and rolled to the fence giving the Hawks a runner at first. Before the next batter flew out to center the runner at first stole second base. Hamel’s final at bat in the game was a single to left field but instead of having runners at first and third the runner at second tried to score the go ahead run. With a perfect one hop throw from Ryan Dwyer in left, the runner was gunned down at the plate.

The Devils won the game in the bottom of the seventh. Andrew Pratt, who has been on fire at the plate, went with the pitch and hit a double to the right center gap. CJ followed with a sac bunt to move up Andrew to third. With the outfield pulled in, Dan Boisclair ended the game with the second deep fly ball to right center in the inning for the Devils.
