It was a tough day for the Diamond Devils as the Watkins Clippers beat the Devils 10-1.

Watkins scored all the runs they would need to win this game in the second inning. The Clippers sent eleven men to the plate with seven of them coming home to score. For the inning the Watkins hitters had four singles, two doubles and two walks.

The Devils scored a run in the fifth inning for their only run of the game. Matt Duenwald led off the inning and reached first on an error by the first baseman. The next two batters, Ryan Dwyer and Pat McPherson walked to load the bases. Matt scored when Craig Hawkinson hit into a double play in the Devil’s next at bat.

Watkins added three more runs in the seventh. With runners at first and second, the Clipper’s Tom Frericks hit a home run to left field.

The Devil’s Adam Gregg earned his first loss of the season. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up ten earned runs on eleven hits, seven walks and two strikeouts.

Paul Kunz pitched the rest of the game, facing eight Watkins batters, giving up no runs on one hit, one walk, and one hit batter while striking out two.
