The Devils take the first game in the 2005 Hinckley Tournament.

This game was closer than it should have been. The defense had a melt down, committing six errors in the game. That was as many hits as the Devil’s pitcher Pat McPherson gave up. Pat pitched the entire game giving up six runs none of them earned.

They did come through in the sixth inning when third baseman KC Johnson made a diving play to his right. With a runner at third KC not only took a away a hit but also a run when his strong but three hop throw across the infield was scooped up by Mike Hokanson to end the inning.

The Devils scored four runs in the third inning. Dan Boisclair led off the inning with a base hit. Dan was moved to second on a Matt Goodwald sac bunt. KC Johnson scored Dan on a base hit. From there, the Devils loaded the bases when Matt Duenwald singled and catcher’s interference was called in Andrew Engebretson’s at bat. Ryan Dwyer walked to force in Dan. Brandon Schliinz hit into a fielder’s choice to get Ryan at second. The play scored KC and Andrew when the second baseman made a wild throw to first trying to double up Brandon at first. The Devils add a run in the fourth and tacted on the final two runs in the fifth. Andrew Engebretson led off with a base hit. Andrew stole second and moved up to third on a pass ball. Brandon Schliinz scored Andrew on a fly ball to right. On the play the right fielder misplayed the fly which allowed Brandon to reach second base. He then stole third base. Mike Hokanson drove in Brandon with a base hit to end the scoring for the Devils.
