Adam Gregg pitches nine solid innings and earns another victory against the Maple Lake Lakers who have the best record in the North Star League.

The Devils started out as hot as the weather in Maple Lake, scoring two runs on four hits in the top of the first. Matt Goodwald led off the game with a base hit. KC Johnson with a perfectly executed bunt moved Matt to second. Brad Mazer hit a short fly to center that dropped before the center fielder, not allowing Matt to move up a base. Andrew Engebretson was up next and delivered the game winning hit with a single to right center. Adam Gregg came up with runners at the corners and hit into an RBI fielders choice.

That would be it for the scoring in the game as Maple Lake’s Bob Fobbe would send down the next eleven batters. The Devil’s next scoring chance came in the eighth inning when Matt Goodwald led off the inning with a single. Once again, KC Johnson sacrificed Matt over to second on a bunt. Brad Mazer grounded out to third for the second out. Andrew Engebretson came up next and hit a rocket to third. The third baseman just got enough of the ball to deflect it to the shortstop. The shortstop made a hurried throw to first that sailed to the fence. Matt tried to score on the play but the first baseman made a perfect throw to nip Matt at the plate.

Adam Gregg was in control the whole game. Maple Lake had a minor threat in the third inning when Adam gave up two singles with two outs but was able to get out of the inning on a lazy fly ball to left field. Adam from that point on would go on to retire the next ten batters and would not have any trouble until the ninth.

In the ninth, Adam struck out the Maple Lake lead off hitter on four pitches. Two pitches later, Adam got an easy ground ball to short but the shortstop made an errant throw and the runner was safe. With a sense of relief, the Lakers would pick up another hit. Adam responded by striking out the next batter for the second out of the inning. Down to their last out, the next hitter did not wait long and loaded the base with a single on the second pitch in the at bat. Stepping to the plate and looking to avoid the loss was the Maple Lake pitcher Bob Fobbe. But the win would belong to Adam as he got Bob to ground out to the first baseman.
