On a very cold day with intermittent snow showers the Devils dropped their first game of the season against the Orphans. Playing from behind the whole game, the Devils had the chance to win the game but against some very good pitching, could not come up the big hit.

Playing small ball, the Orphans were able to score three runs on five hits and four sacrifices. The Orphans were able to capitalize on a miscue by the Devils. The Devils had a chance at a double play in the sixth inning with a ball hit on the ground close to second base. The ball was fielded by the shortstop but instead of stepping on second and throwing over to first, made the flip to the second basemen and with the added time the hitter was safe at first. The next batter hit a double scoring the runner from first with what turned out to be the game-winning run.

The Devils would not go quietly. Being down two runs in the ninth, the Devils scored a run and had runners at third and second but could not get the hit that they needed.
