The games between the Devils and Loretto usually have more tension but with the Devils having wrapped up first place prior to Sunday made the game feel more like a scrimmage.

The Devils starting pitcher Pat McPherson got off to a slow start having walked the Loretto’s lead off hitter Brandon Scanlon. Pat did get the next two hitters to fly out to center before Tyler Maher doubled home the first run of the game.

Again in the second inning Pat struggled hitting the first batter of the inning and giving up a single to the next hitter. Loretto’s Herb Koch Jr. tried to sac bunt but popped the ball into the air. The ball was caught but the throw to second to double up the runner was wide of the base and went into center, moving the runner to third. Nate Maher’s sac fly to center scored the last run of the game for Loretto.

From that point on Pat was able to get ahead of the batters which resulted in giving up one more hit and one more walk over the next three innings to earn a no decision.

The Devils scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. KC Johnson led off the inning with a single to left field. After a fly out to second, Billy Soule singled to center. The Devils pulled off a double steal that resulted in a run as the throw from the catcher dribbled into left field. A few pitches later Billy scored on a wild pitch.

Adam Gregg entered the game to finish off the Larks. Over the four innings that Adam pitched the Larks only managed to get two hits as Adam struck out eight of the fourteen batters that he faced.

The Devils pulled it off in the bottom of the ninth. Andrew Engebretson led off the inning with a single to left center. Craig Hawkinson’s sac bunt put Andrew into scoring position. The Larks countered with an intentional walk to Brad Mazer. After a change of pitchers, Andrew Pratt walked to load the bases. KC Johnson hit a fastball to right field to score the game winning run.
