For the second midweek game in a row, CJ Goodwald shut down another division opponent. This time the Mound Mallards were the victims as the Devils ran away with this game 10-1.

The Devils defense spotted the Mallards a run in the first inning. Mound’s Peter Harrell started off the game with a double to deep right center. A fly out to center before a walk to last year’s MVP Andy Snyder put runners at second and first. The Mallards scored in the next at bat when Eddie Kutz grounded to third for a put out but the throw got by the first baseman to score Andy from first base.

The Devils answered with five runs in bottom half of the inning. With one out, Andrew Pratt walked setting up Adam Gregg’s game winning hit as he belted a line drive home run into the bottom of the pines in left center. Lee Gregg, Brandon Schliinz and Ryan Dwyer rattled off base hits to load the bases for KC Johnson who singled to left. On the play, the hit was misplayed to allow three runs to score, ending the scoring for the Devils in the first. After Brandon scored the catcher was overheard saying, “Welcome to Mallard baseball.”

The Devils picked up two more runs in the fifth. Adam Gregg led off the inning with a base hit. Lee Gregg followed with a ball hit to short forcing Adam at second but the throw was late leaving a runner at first. Brandon Schliinz singled giving the Devils runners at second and first. Ryan Dwyer scored Lee and Brandon with a double to left center.

The Devils scored the final three runs of the game in the seventh inning. Adam Gregg singled and was followed by a Lee Gregg double to straight away center field. Brandon Schliinz doubled off the fence in right to score Adam and Lee easily. A wild pitch moved Brandon up to third before Ryan Dwyer scored him with a batted ball to short.

After the first inning, CJ Goodwald sailed through the Mallards as only two more runners gained second base in the next six innings. Paul Kunz pitched the final two innings, giving up just one base hit.
