For the fourth time in seven games the Larks and Diamond Devils battled it out on the field. This was a total opposite game compared to last Sunday’s game were 24 runs were scored in seven innings of play. This game had good pitching from both teams, a total of three runs scored and a completed game in under two hours.

For the third time in the last two years CJ Goodwald shut down the Cold Spring Rockies in the Regional Tournament. This time CJ pitched a complete game 9-2 victory for the Diamond Devils.

The Rockies got off to a good start scoring in the top of the first with two outs in the inning when Jamie Thomas scored from second on a John Rossman single. However, the Devils scored two in the bottom half of the inning and never gave up the lead. The first two batters, Matt Goodwald and KC Johnson singled for the Devils. Andrew Engebreston back in the fold loaded the bases with a walk. After the first out of the inning, Brandon Schliinz drove Matt with a ground ball to second. On the play, a throwing error by the shortstop allowed KC to score the second run.

The Devils added three more runs in the fourth inning. Andrew Pratt walked to start off the inning. Craig Hawkinson sac bunted to move Andrew to second. After a fly out to the second baseman for the second out of the inning, Matt Goodwald walked. KC Johnson in his at bat drove a pitch to left field for a game winning three run home run.

Cold Spring scored their final run of the game in the sixth. Josh Porwoll led off the inning with a single. Two ground balls to second allowed Josh to reach third before John Rossman drove him in with a single.

The Devils sent nine men to the plate in the eighth en route to scoring four more runs. Ryan Dwyer leading the team in hit by pitches with 9 was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Ryan moved up to second on a ground out to the pitcher. KC Johnson singled in the next Devil’s at bat. Andrew Engebretson loaded the bases with a walk. Peter Sycks drove in Ryan with a base hit. After a pitching change, Brandon Schliinz doubled in KC and Andrew. Brad Mazer scored the final run of the game with a sac fly to center to score Peter.

It was a great pitching performance from CJ when the Devils needed it the most as the relief pitching was very slim on Saturday. Paul Kunz could not get out of work and Craig Hawkinson was injured on the job the day before. CJ got stronger in the eighth and ninth innings as he struck out three of the six batters his faced.
