The Diamond Devils spotted the Larks six unearned runs before charging back to score 18 unanswered runs to end the game in seven innings. Brad Mazer put the icing on the cake with a walk off three run blast into the upper part of the evergreens in left center.

The Larks jumped out to a three run first inning lead. Brandon Scanlon started off the game with a base hit. In the Lark’s next at bat, an error at short cost the Diamond Devils a put out at second and a chance at a double play. The Lark’s next hitter Nate Triplett grounded a ball to third. KC Johnson threw over to Brandon Schliinz at second. Brandon’s throw to first appeared to get Nate by a half step to complete the double play but the base umpire did not see it that way and called the runner safe. Tom Traen singled in Scanlon for the first run. Eric Schutte doubled in Nate and Tom with a double to the left center gap to finish the scoring.

The Larks added to their lead in the second, scoring three more runs. Herb Koch Sr. reached first on an error. An out later, Herb Koch Jr. singled and then was followed by Brandon Scanlon who was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A ground out to second scored Herb Koch Sr. Nate Triplett hit a double to drive in the final two runs of the game for the Larks.

The Devils scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning but should have scored more. Adam Gregg got things rolling when he walked to start off the inning. Andrew Pratt doubled to put runners at second and third. Mike Hokanson drove in Adam with a single. Craig Hawkinson walked to load the bases. Ryan Dwyer singled to score Andrew and to keep the bases loaded.

The Devils not only scored in the next at bat but also were robbed of an out due to a bad call by the base umpire. Matt Goodwald hit a pitch to second. The second baseman tried to tag Ryan as he ran by but not only did he miss the tag but dropped the ball. That did not matter to the umpire who, while positioned just a few feet away, called Ryan out. That left the Devils with the third run of the inning scored and runners at the corners. The final run scored when KC Johnson hit a sac fly to center to score Craig.

In the next inning, the Devils scored four more runs. With one out, Andrew Pratt singled and was followed by another Mike Hokanson base hit. Andrew came around to score on a double by Craig Hawkinson. Ryan Dwyer drove in two more runs with another Devil double. KC Johnson drove in Ryan with a single to cap off the scoring.

In the fifth the Devils added another four runs. Matt Goodwald started off the inning with a single. KC singled and Brad Mazer followed with a single to load the bases. Brandon Schliinz scored the next two runs with a double. Adam Gregg scored Brad with a sac fly to center. The fourth run scored a few batters later on a Craig Hawkinson base hit.

The Devils finished off the Larks in the seventh. The first two Devil hitters, Adam Gregg and Andrew Pratt singled. A fielder’s choice at third in Mike Hokanson’s at bat left the Devils with runners at first and second. A wild pitch moved Andrew and Mike up a base before the second out was recorded in the inning. Ryan Dwyer singled to score Andrew. Matt Goodwald singled to score Mike. KC singled to score Ryan.

Brad Mazer, who was five for five in the game, stepped to the plate with the Devils one run away from the ten run rule. On the first pitch, Brad got a pitch that he liked and on the swing there was no doubt that the game was over as the ball disappeared into the upper part of the trees in left center.

Pat McPherson started the game on the mound for the Devils but only made it through 2 1/3 innings as the Larks hit the ball well and the defense made it tuff on Pat. Paul Kunz entered the game to relieve Pat. Paul stopped the Larks to earn the victory as no Lark runners made it past second base over the next 4 2/3 innings.
