For the second Sunday in a row, the Diamond Devils beat the Loretto Larks this time at Don Timpe field.

The Devils started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Matt Goodwald started the game off with a base hit. One out later, Adam Gregg singled moving Matt up to third. Andrew Pratt walked to load the bases for Mike Hokanson. Mike delivered an RBI single and was followed by Ryan Dwyer who singled to score a run. The inning ended with Craig Hawkinson just missing a grand slam. Craig drove a pitch to the left center gap and the Lark’s center fielder caught it on a leaping flat out run against the fence.

The Larks cut the lead in half in the third. With Ben Scanlon at first base, Tom Traen doubled putting runners at second and third. Herb Koch Sr. singled scoring Ben from third.

Loretto took the lead in the seventh inning. With two outs, an error allowed Brandon Scanlon to reach first base. Kent Koch singled in his at bat. Nate Triplett reached first on another Devil’s error allowing Brandon to score. Ryan Schaust singled, scoring the Lark’s final run.

The Devils tied it up in the bottom of the seventh. Paul Kunz singled to lead off the inning and then moved up to third on a walk by Mike Hokanson. A single by Ryan Dwyer loaded the based. Craig Hawkinson tied the game with a sac fly to center field.

The Devils scored the final runs of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Once again the Devil’s lead off hitter was able to get on base when Matt Goodwald singled. KC Johnson sac bunted to move Matt to second. Adam Gregg singled but did not score Matt in his at bat. Brandon Schliinz doubled into the left center gap to score both Matt and Adam. Later, Craig Hawkinson would score Brandon with a single.

Four Devil pitchers, Adam Gregg, Brandon Schliinz, Paul Kunz and Craig Hawkinson worked this game. Paul Kunz earned the victory and Craig earned a save.
