Third generation North Star League ballplayers Tommy Traen and Mike Hokanson congratulate each other on a well played game.

The Diamond Devil’s Adam Gregg not only shut out the Larks on 146 pitches but scored the winning run but that is not the whole story. Adam and the Lark’s Mark Riche both pitched well as the two starters never let the other team’s batters get anything going. Mark did not give up back-to-back hits while Adam only gave up two consecutive hits once. Both pitchers struck out four hitters. Adam walked two while Mark did not allow a walk.

The Devils big break came in the fourth. With one out, Adam lined a ball back to Mark. Mark made a great play to stop the ball but his throw sailed over the first baseman allowing Adam to reach third. Brandon Schliinz scored Adam in the next at bat with a sac fly to center.

The Devils added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. With one out, Brandon singled and then moved up to second when Matt Duenwald was hit by a pitch. With Andrew Pratt running for Matt, the Devils executed a double steal to put runners at third and second. Mike Hokanson with a full count lifted a fly ball to right to score Brandon on a sac fly to end the scoring in the game.
