To make the new scoreboard look even better, the Devils posted a 10-0 seven inning victory over the Kinston Kings on a sultry Saturday afternoon.

This game was close until the seventh inning when the Devils scored seven runs to end the game two innings early. Adam Gregg got the game winning hit in the second inning when he drove in Craig Hawkinson from third with his first base hit of the game. Adam would drive in two more runs in the fifth inning. With Matt Goodwald on third and KC Johnson on second, Adam scored them easily with his first double of the game.

The Devils would put it away in the seventh. KC Johnson led off the inning by reaching first on an error. Adam Gregg followed with a base hit. Both KC and Adam would score easily when Andrew Engebretson hit a triple to the gap in right center. Brad Mazer walked in the next at bat for the Devils. Ryan Dwyer picked up an RBI with a base hit. Vince Reuter was the next batter and was awarded first when hit by a pitch. With bases loaded, Andrew Pratt sacrificed Brad home when he lifted a pitch to right field. The next batter struck out looking on a pitch that was out of the strike zone. The Devils reloaded the bases when Matt Goodwald walked. In his second at bat of the inning, KC was hit by a pitch to force in the eighth run of the game. In Adam’s second at bat in the inning, he hit a looping double half way down the wandering right field line that ended the game with his fourth and fifth RBIs for the game.

CJ Goodwald earned his third victory of the season. Although the score was a lopsided win for the Devils, Kingston is an improved team and forced CJ to throw a lot of pitches in the beginning of the game. CJ had thrown 51 pitches through three innings but then got into a groove and over the next four innings threw 46 pitches. He finished the game giving up five hits, no walks with seven strike outs on 97 pitches. Another victory, another division title!
