The talk in the dugout in the first inning was about last year's game against DC and how DC's John Riewer two hit the Devils. The uneasiness would not last long as the Devils got a hit in the third at bat. Although that was it for the hits, the Devils hit the ball hard.

The Devils fell behind in the second innings as the Saints picked up an unearned run. The Devil's pitcher Pat McPherson got the first two hitters out on fly balls to center field, but a walk, an error and a hit put DC up.

The Devils would rally in the fifth inning and never look back. Ryan Dwyer, Matt Goodwald and KC Johnson would pick up three consecutive hits for the Devils with KC knocking Ryan in with the Devils first run. Brad Mazer was up next and hit the ball to the right of the shortstop, the shortstop made a good play but the Saints would not pick up the double play as Brad just beat out the the throw. That play seemed to rattle the Saints a little which some thought the inning should have ended with a double play. Andy Engebretson was up next and reached base on an error by the shortstop. Adam Gregg and Matt Duenwald both had hard base hits and the Devils took a four to one lead.

The Saints would not go quietly as they made Pat McPherson work hard for this win. The Saints would have runners on base in every inning but Pat was equal to the task until the sixth inning. In the sixth inning Pat was able to get the first batter out but the Saints loaded the bases on a hit, walk and another hit. Paul Kunz entered the game and got the batter to ground to first but the throw home skipped off the top of the catcher's glove and the Saints scored another unearned run. Paul came up big, striking out the next two Saints on six pitches. Paul pitched the rest of the game working out of a minor situation in the seventh with the help of catcher Brad Mazer who threw out a runner at first who had strayed off the base a bit too far.

The Devils picked up an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Brad Mazer, with his third hit of the night, knocked in KC Johnson.
